Green tea extract helps soothe inflamed acne stressed skin, while silver citrate provides powerful antibacterial protection to inhibit blemish formation, helping to keep your skin clear.

How to use: use am and pm, Massage over dampened face and neck. Rinse and pat dry. Follow with a Murad sunscreen during the day. At night, follow with Clarifying Oil Free Water Gel.

Salicylic acid reduces the severity of acne, helps keep skin clear by preventing formation of new acne and allows skin to heal. There are many factors that contribute to acne, such as excessive oiliness and irregular sloughing of skin cells. When skin cell sloughing is irregular or slow, cells can stick together and not only clog the pores but also host an environment for proliferation of acne causing bacteria. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that is extremely effective at treating acne because of its ability to penetrate facial oil. It is also a keratolytic, meaning it helps normalize skin cell sloughing to soften, loosen and lift off stubborn layers of skin cells to prevent them from clogging the pore.
While both AHAs and BHAs are beneficial in addressing acne because of their exfoliation properties, salicylic acid’s oil-solubility enables it to better penetrate facial oils to loosen and lift off stubborn layers of skin cells and prevent them from clogging the pore.
Clarifying Cleanser is uniquely formulated with two types of salicylic acid, a free form that starts treating immediately and an encapsulated form that treats over time. The encapsulation technology consists of multiple salicylic acid molecules inside specially charged microscopic spheres that adhere to skin, providing continuous salicylic acid treatment for hours, even after rinsing.

Salicylic acid is thought to make skin more vulnerable to sun damage, and while some studies have conflicting conclusions, the FDA recommends anyone who uses products containing salicylic acid follow with a sunscreen during the day. We recommend using a broad-spectrum SPF.

Salicylic acid is an ideal non physical exfoliant for breakout-prone skin. It is oil soluble, which enables it to penetrate skin to help slough off dirt, dead skin cells and debris that can clog pores, the trigger that instigates acne. Benzoyl peroxide works by killing acne bacteria that forms once the pore has become clogged. However, many people report extreme reactions and sensitivities to benzoyl peroxide. It is not a well-tolerated ingredient, and can cause dryness, peeling, flaking and other forms of skin irritation.
Murad traditionally recommends a complete acne regimen (Cleanse and Tone, Treat, Moisturize) of products that are formulated with salicylic acid.
