SELF TANNING APPLICATION GUIDE
Follow these easy steps to get the best looking tan:
PREPARATION
When you're tanning at home, preparation is the key to getting the most natural and even-looking result. It's amazing what a difference it can make, so it's worth following these few simple steps to make sure you get a flawless tan that last even longer.
24 Hours before:
Shave or Wax - Make sure you shave or wax any areas you need to - shaving or waxing immediately after treatment can damage the colouring.
Exfoliate - using an oil-free product, focusing on drier areas such as elbows, knees and ankles - Xen-Tan Body Scrub is particularly effective.
Moisturise - your whole body with an oil-free moisturiser such as Xen-Tan Scent Secure
Immediately before:
Cleanse - Remove any make-up, deodorant, moisturisers or anything that could act as a barrier between your skin and the tanning product, as this can lead to discolouration.
Moisturise - Apply a thin layer of oil-free moisturiser to elbows, knees and ankles at this point too, but try and avoid contact with the rest of your body as this could prevent a completely even finish. Try Xen-Tan Scent Secure for an oil-free moisturiser with a delicious fresh fragrance.
APPLICATION
Once you have fully prepared, it's time for application. If you're trying it for the first time, just take it easy and use a little at a time - there's no rush and you'll soon get the hang of it.
Legs and Feet - Starting with the feet, use a cotton wool pad or make-up sponge for a smooth finish. To avoid tell tale 'tide-marks' apply lightly between toes and around nails, blending carefully over the heels and towards the bottoms of your feet. Then continue with the lower legs. Apply in circular motions, blending upward lightly over knees, then continue circular motions around thighs.
Chest and Arms - Apply a small amount in circular motions to your shoulders, chest, stomach and arms, and as far around your sides as you can reach.
Back - can be difficult if you've no-one there to help you, but they needn't be with our Hard to Reach Back Applicator.The soft, reusable foam applicator pads help to spread your tan for an evenly smooth, flawless colour. Use a mirror to check for any spots you might have missed and reapply if necessary.
Hands - Leave your hands until last. Wash them thoroughly with a bar of soap for about a minute (bars work better than liquid soap) and leave them to dry for ten minutes. Now use a cotton wool pad or sponge to apply a small amount to the backs of the hands and more lightly between the fingers and around the nails and gently work in to the skin.
USEFUL TIPS
Tanning Mitt - We recommend using a mitt to apply your tanner - mitts give a smooth and even application and help protect your hands. Our Luxury Tanning Mitt is ideal and speeds up application time too, although you may feel more comfortable just using your bare hands or vinyl gloves We would however recommend you avoid latex gloves as these can cause an uneven finish.
Guide Colour - Some products have an instant guide colour to help you see where you've applied. However, our light/gradual products go on clear, so you'll need to remember where you've applied them - check the pack if you're unsure.
Mix it Up - It's worth experimenting with different products for different parts of the body. Legs can be notoriously difficult to tan, so try using a darker product like Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe. MAINTAIN
Once your tan has been applied you should be feeling good all over. But there are still a few steps worth following to guarantee the results are absolutely flawless and your tan lasts as long as possible.
What to wear - Due to its great smell you can apply XenTan during the day or night, but it's always worth wearing loose, dark clothing afterwards.
Drying Time - Different products have different shades, so it should come as no surprise that the longer you leave a product on, the darker the colour. For best results leave on for a maximum of eight hours.
Washing Off - Once you're happy with your tan wash off the guide colour using warm water, which won't break up the colour.
