OPI ANSWERS FAQs

I have problem nails, what can I do to improve them?

Original Nail Envy is OPI's strongest and most effective nail strengthening treatment. Whether your nails are splitting, dry, brittle, weak, or you just cannot grow them, Original Nail Envy is the treatment for you. Apply two coats to your bare nail and then apply one coat every other day to maintain your treatment. You can use Nail Envy over the top of nail lacquer too so you can continue to see the benefits of Envy all the time! For the man in your life - try Matte Envy for a totally natural, non-shiny finish

After a week, use OPI Non Acetone Polish Remover to remove the Nail Envy and begin application again as above.

Once your nails have made a noticeable improvement, you can move onto either a specific formula Nail Envy; Dry and Brittle Nails, Thin and Weak nails or Sensitive and Peeling nails, or simply switch to Maintenance Envy.

My nail lacquer chips easily

At certain times in our lives our nails can become unbalanced. ChipSkip is OPI's patented formula that keeps nails looking beautiful for longer. Just one coat applied to the bare natural nail prior to base coat and lacquer helps prevent chipping.

I don't have time to wait for my nails to dry

OPI has 3 excellent products that are the perfect finishing solution; RapiDry Spray, RapiDry Top Coat and Drip Dry Drying Drops. OPI's Drip Dry Drying Drops dry the nail to the touch in just one minute, with just one or two drops. You can also use RapiDry Top Coat for a hard glossy finish in 5 minutes, in conjunction with the drops or on its own, and Rapidry Spray ensures your nails dry with added lustre and conditioned cuticles as the spray also contains Avoplex Replenishing Nail and Cuticle Oil.

I have trouble removing dark shades of lacquer without staining my nails and skin

Try OPI Expert Touch Lacquer Remover. It's designed especially to remove dark shades fast, while leaving cuticles soft and supple. Soak an OPI Lint Free Wipe with the lacquer remover and hold it onto the nail for 30 seconds, allowing the wipe to soak up the lacquer. With firm pressure pull the wipe away from the nail towards you, thus preventing the lacquer from staining the surrounding skin.

My cuticles are rough, dry and untidy

For rough, dry, untidy cuticles OPI's Avoplex range will soon have your cuticles in top form. Firstly, OPI's Avoplex Exfoliating Cuticle Treatment will eliminate dry, rough cuticles and put back essential moisture and lipids. Use this with OPI's Avoplex Replenishing Nail and Cuticle Oil to restore moisture and lipids with antioxidant, Vitamin E plus skin-loving avocado, sunflower, sesame and kukui nut oil.

If you're busy and on the go, try Avoplex Cuticle Oil to Go. Its thick gel formula means easy, non-drip usage on the go with all the same benefits as Avoplex Nail and Cuticle Oil.

My hands are really rough and dry

Give Avoplex High-Intensity Hand and Nail Cream a go. It transforms hands in need of serious care with its luxuriously hydrating blend of shea, cocoa, avocado, and almond butters plus deep-penetrating protein peptides. It hydrates, nourishes and protects overworked hands, while helping to increase skin elasticity and nail flexibility. It has a leak-proof lid that makes it the ideal hand cream to pop in your handbag.

My feet are dry and cracked

To combat dry and cracked feet try Feet by OPI Double Coverage. Its moisturising shea butter and smoothing silicones add a layer of micronised cotton powder to protect against foot irritation. For tough and painful calluses we recommend OPI's Feet by OPI Callus File buffs away dry, rough and callused skin. It's dual-sided file smoothes feet fast; the blue side reduces calluses and the Gray side buffs skin to a smooth finish. Finish by applying Feet by OPI Callus Therapy.

The OPI Story

A family-owned company committed to the highest quality products and to our customers' well-being, OPI has long been a leader in the community and within the Professional Beauty Industry. Quite simply, dedicated to excellence.

OPI was founded in 1981 by President and CEO George Schaeffer, who immigrated to the U.S. as a child from post-World War II Eastern Europe. OPI continues to be family-owned, with Schaeffer and Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Executive VP and Artistic Director, at the helm, and has grown to become the world leader in professional nail care.

With this position comes responsibility, and OPI has always been committed to providing our customers with the finest quality in products and services.

From its inception, OPI broke through nail industry barriers. OPI was one of the first in the nail industry to focus on and limit sales of product to and through beauty professionals only, and to realize the importance of education in both the sale and use of the product. From the very beginning, OPI has shown its commitment to quality by putting batch numbers, instructions and ingredients on all of the products it sells. OPI has a dedicated team of scientists who ensure product quality and safety, and bring the latest technology and advances to its product offerings.

OPI also takes a lead within the Professional Beauty Industry in raising the standards by which the industry operates. OPI is active in numerous industry associations whose aim is to ensure that consumer safety is always preserved, through products and services which are developed to meet and exceed safety standards. The company works closely with federal, state, local, and international agencies and scientists for the same purpose.

In addition to its commitment to customer service and safety, OPI is committed to the safety of its own employees. Work-safety seminars are held at the company's headquarters several times each year, and employees are urged to make safety a priority.

Probably more than any other professional nail care product it produces, OPI is renowned globally for its Nail Lacquers, with each shade created by Weiss-Fischmann based on her impeccable colour forecasting, sense of style, and instinct for what women want. The brilliant, chip-resistant, professional OPI Nail Lacquer formula is available in over 200 fashion-forward colours. With clever names that customers look forward to with each new Collection, OPI Nail Lacquers are beloved around the world, and trusted by professionals. Neither OPI Nail Lacquers nor any other OPI product or service are subject to animal testing.

OPI is well-known for its philanthropy and dedication to giving something back to the community. The Schaeffer Family Foundation, established by Schaeffer, Weiss-Fischmann, and Miriam Schaeffer, OPI Treasurer, has donated millions of dollars to multiple charities, with an emphasis on those which support health-related causes and children's education.

In addition to helping those in need across the U.S. and around the world (including a matching-funds donation of over $350,000 to the American Red Cross to help with recovery after Hurricane Katrina), the Foundation donates to the most local of causes, including a community health clinic in North Hollywood for those without health insurance. The Schaeffer Family Foundation also awards OPI employees' children with computers.

OPI continues to be unrelenting in the fight against diversion of Professional Beauty products, spending millions of dollars in an effort to protect consumers from unwittingly purchasing tainted, unsafe product, and to help the Professional Beauty Industry maintain its high standards of quality.

OPI's reputation is built on its commitment to quality, safety, innovation and excellence - a commitment it honours with every product, every day.

Coty owns the entire brand now.

OPI Principals And Care

In recent months, you have probably heard news stories questioning the safety of certain beauty products in terms of both consumer and salon use. Among the types of products discussed have been hair dye and shampoo, lipstick and mascara, antiperspirants and deodorants, perfume, and nail polish – major segments of the beauty industry.

OPI wants to assure you that it is committed to the safety of our consumers and of Beauty Professionals, and emphasize that we have always taken the necessary steps to ensure that our products exceed safety standards. In light of these most recent concerns, however, and even though our products have always been safe, we have taken the unprecedented step of reformulating our Nail Lacquers, Nail Treatments, and Nail Hardeners to remove some of the ingredients that have been the topic of recent discussion, while maintaining the high product quality standards we and you expect:

Since 2006, OPI has reformulated its entire line of Nail Lacquers, Nail Treatments, and Nail Hardeners to eliminate DBP (dibutyl phthalate) and Toluene. Formaldehyde has never been an ingredient in OPI Nail Lacquers or Nail Treatments.

Some nail hardeners do contain formaldehyde, while others are formulated without it to give consumers a choice. The levels of formaldehyde are more than four times lower than the safe levels established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In fact, according to a study conducted under the auspices of the California authorities, the levels of formaldehyde, even in nail salons, are no higher than those found in many common work places, such as offices, where no nail products whatsoever are present. OPI continues to search for effective alternates to formaldehyde.

Through improving our formulas, we continue in our tradition of supplying our customers with safe, effective, innovative products that promise beautiful results. In addition, as the world leader in professional nail care, OPI is proud to help lead the industry in transitioning to these newer, “greener” formulations.
