How To Prepare For A Spray Tan

How To Prepare For A Spray Tan

Spray Tan Preparation

To help you get the best fake tan we have put together some tips to help you prepare your skin at home the day before your Salon Spray Tan, to ensure you get the best results possible and your tan lasts even longer with even fade.

The day before your spray tan

Remove any unwanted hair the day before your spray tan to allow pores plenty of time to close, tan in your pores will leave you with a dotty finish.

We recommended you paint your nails and toe nails, particularly if you have acrylic extensions! Not only will this leave you feeling even more pampered, but it will also prevent the chance of your nails and cuticles from being stained.

Buff away dead skin cells with a body scrub or purchase a Body Scrub to reveal the ultimate smooth base for your tan. Pay particular attention to dry areas such as elbows, knees and feet.

Then use a body balm to rehydrate your skin and leave your skin feeling silky and smooth.

We have found that Dove bath and body products do not work well with Spray Tan and should be avoided before and after your treatment, so that your tan lasts as long as it should.

On the day of your spray tan

On the day of your spray tan, we advice you not to apply deodorant, perfume or body lotion as these act as a barrier and can stop the tan from developing properly.

We provide disposable pants for during your tan, but if you wish too, you can wear your own or a bikini. Please bring dark loose clothing to your appointment for after your tan, and whilst it develops.

How to prolong your tan

There are plenty of things that you can do at home to increase the longevity of your spray tan. With the right aftercare, you can expect your tan to last 5-7 days.

Things you must do to prolong your tan

  • Shower between 8-12 hours to reveal your gorgeous developed tan. Unless you have used the 1hr High Intensity tanning, you shower after 1hr and your tan will carry on to develop.
  • Stay in the shower until the water runs clear, if there is any guide colour left on your skin it will rub off onto your clothes.
  • Use a non oily moisturiser daily to enhance and prolong your tan.
  • Start to exfoliate after 4 days to encourage an even wear off.
  • Remember to use an SPF, any fake tan will not protect your skin from harmful U.V rays.

Things you must not do

  • Go to the gym or get wet during the development period. No washing up!
  • Wear tight clothes as these will rub your tan off and lead to a patchy developed tan.
  • Rub your skin after washing the guide colour off, pat dry instead to help your tan last longer.
  • Wear white! Although the tan will come off in the washing machine, it could leave a mark on sensitive materials.
  • Use skincare or body products during the development time.
  • Perfumes and chemicals can react with the tan, causing it to turn green.

Maintain your tan

Did you know that using your normal shower gel after you have had a spray tan can strip it away? To get the most out of your tan opt for a gentle pH balanced soap such as a Body Wash from our self-tan brands, your therapist will provide you with a sample of this. If you are someone who is a lover of spray tans or Self tanning, then we advice you purchase a specialised Body Wash for tanning in our store. The mild shower gel will keep your skin refreshed and nourished without affecting the longevity of your tan.
