Australian Body Care Tea Tree Oil

Many skin problems can be related to the same cause, namely an uncontrolled growth of bacteria, fungi or viruses. By reducing and limiting this uncontrolled growth it is possible to reduce the symptoms, maintain a healthy skin and keep the skin's natural balance. Tea Tree Oil is a suitable aid in personal care and hygiene because it reduces and controls the growth of foreign bacteria without destroying the natural skin flora. Therefore skin care products enriched with Tea Tree Oil will maintain the skin's natural balance resulting in a healthy skin.

Inspired by traditional Aboriginal remedies, Australian Bodycare has created a hair and skincare range where every single product is individually designed to nourish and pamper the different areas of your body.

Australian Tea Tree Oil is one of the most exciting essential oils in the world. It is only extracted from the tree called Melaleuca alternifolia, which is indigenous to Australia and only grows in a relatively small area on the Northern Rivers region of N.S.W., Australia.

The main properties of Australian Bodycare Tea Tree Oil are:

  • Rapid Broad Spectrum Bactericidal Activity: Effective on bacteria, fungi and virus.
  • Easy Absorption: Being lipophilic, the oil can penetrate down through the upper level of the skin to the derma (fat tissue).
  • Slightly Pain Relieving: Australian Bodycare Tea Tree Oil applied to wounds, insect bites will reduce irritation.
  • Effective: Effective even in the presence of organic detritus (pus).

Australian Bodycare has rigorous quality standards which mean that we can substantiate our claim of having the finest Tea Tree Oil.

  • Australian Body Care source all our Tea Tree oil from one strictly controlled plantation.
  • Australian Body Care source our Tea Tree oil from a plantation and not from forests to ensure the source is renewable.
  • The Australian Body Care's standardization more than meets the minimum requirements for the quality of Tea Tree oil defined in the European Pharmacopoeia, the International Standard ISO 4730 and the Australian Standard AS 2782-1997.
  • The key component for antimicrobial activity is Terpinen-4-ol, the concentration of which must be more than 30%, typical concentration in Australian Bodycare Tea Tree oil is 38-44%.
  • The concentration of cineole must be less than 15%, typical concentration in Australian Bodycare Tea Tree oil is between 0.5% and 5%.

The History of Tea Tree Oil

For several hundred years the Aborigines have used the antiseptic properties of Tea Tree Oil. Tea Tree Oil was named by Captain James Cook when he first visited Australia in the 18th century. In 1925 A.R. Penfold proved that 100% pure Melaleuca alternifolia oil (Tea Tree Oil) was 11 to 13 times stronger than the traditionally used antiseptic of the time called carbolic acid (phenol).

In the contrary to phenol, Tea Tree Oil didn't burn the skin. It therefore quickly became the preferred household antiseptic in Australia. When Australia was forced into World War II, all supplies of Tea Tree Oil went to the Australian army for use in the soldiers first aid kits.

From bush cutting the natural plant by hand early this century, the production of Tea Tree Oil has been developed into cultivated and mechanised harvesting in big commercial plantations. This growth in supply has encouraged more and more companies to enter into further development of products using the properties of this amazing and useful essential oil. Australian Bodycare is one of the companies in the Tea Tree Oil industry leading this research into the 21st century.
